Making sure that your car's battery has a sufficient charge to keep you safe behind the wheel is always smart. These instructions will help you charge up a dying battery, but be sure to visit a certified mechanic if you encounter a dead battery without explanation.

You will need a battery charger and jumper cables to get started. Before plugging the car charger into a wall outlet, locate the positive and negative terminal ends on your car's battery. The kit should have red clamps for the positive terminal and black ones for the negative side. Be sure to fully attach each clamp to its proper terminal. Next, plug in the charger to turn it on.

Wait until your battery shows as completely charged before disconnecting the charger and terminals. Some chargers will automatically shut off. When you go to unhook the clamps, be sure to take the black ones off first.
