2023 Mazda3 Sedan
The Mazda3 sedan is a premium compact car with several engine, transmission, and powertrain options. For the 2023 model year, Mazda dropped the base 2.0-liter engine, making the 2.5-liter the entry-level powertrain, and the Carbon Edition now offers all-wheel drive. All trims also now come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Mazda3 lineup starts with the S model. It has 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The Select Package adds 18-inch wheels, and the Preferred Package comes with a sunroof. Add the Carbon Edition Package to gain 18-inch black painted wheels, black heated side mirrors, gray exterior paint, and a sunroof. The Mazda3 Turbo has 18-inch black painted wheels, and adding the Premium Plus Package gets you a trunk-lid spoiler and an auto-dimming driver's side mirror.
Engine (Power)
Power for the base 2.5 S comes from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine that generates 191 horsepower. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard, and you can get all-wheel drive with the Carbon Edition and the Premium. The 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder is available with the Select, Preferred, and Premium. It delivers 227 horsepower, and if you stick with front-wheel drive, you can opt for a six-speed manual transmission.
Performance
While the base engine has plenty of power, the turbo will zip from zero to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds. This is a sedan that's fun to drive whether you're cruising down the highway or heading over twisting back roads. The ride is just firm enough to keep passengers comfortable while giving the driver the control needed to have some fun behind the wheel. Its size makes it fuel-efficient and easy to maneuver in small spaces. The all-wheel drive with the turbo engine can get up to 41 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The Mazda3 has ample room for five. The base S comes with black cloth upholstery and a split folding rear seat. The Select adds synthetic leather upholstery and dual-zone automatic climate control, while the Preferred has heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory settings. You'll get leather upholstery with the Premium Package and red leather in the Carbon Edition.
Technology in the Mazda3 sedan starts with an 8.8-inch center touchscreen. The infotainment system works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and has an eight-speaker stereo. The Carbon Edition and the Premium have a 12-speaker Bose stereo, and the Premium adds an integrated navigation system.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Mazda3 sedan has a full suite of advanced driver aids. The list includes a forward collision warning system with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and lane-departure warning. It also has a drowsy driver monitor that will alert the driver if it senses fatigue and remind them to take a break. The Select adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Premium has adaptive headlights and a head-up display. If you have the Premium Plus model, it comes with a 360-degree surround-view camera system with a top-down view around the Mazda3 and rear automatic braking.
