2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV

As Mazda's first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the 2024 CX-90 PHEV is available in three trims: Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus. The CX-90 is similar in size to the now-defunct CX-9, which it replaces as the automaker's flagship vehicle, although its wheelbase is 7.5 inches longer. It comes standard with a sunroof, but you can opt for a panoramic roof.

Under the hood of the 2024 CX-90 PHEV, you'll find one of Mazda's most powerful engine options. The 2.5-liter engine delivers 189 horsepower, while the electric motor produces 173 horsepower. It uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to send power to the wheels and comes standard with all-wheel drive.

With the 2024 Mazda CX-90 PHEV, expect the vehicle to get an EPA-estimated 61 mpg-e in the city and 56 mpg-e on the highway. The SUV has a range of 26 miles with all-electric power and 490 miles with blended power. Since the battery pack is so small, the SUV only takes about 2.5 hours to charge from zero to 100 percent with a Level 2 charger. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

Over the years, Mazda has made a point to provide a plush interior, and the cabin inside the CX-90 doesn't disappoint. Its clean design and quality materials might make you believe you're sitting inside a luxury SUV. Also, depending on the configuration, the SUV has seating for six to eight passengers. Its rear doors open wide, so you can install bulky child safety seats. You can operate the infotainment system via a touchscreen or rotary knob. You can also opt for a 12.3-inch display that has partial touch functionality, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and satellite radio.

Advanced driver-assistance features are plentiful, since the SUV has more than a dozen that come standard. A few of the notable ones include blind-spot warning, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, forward automatic emergency braking, driver-attention monitoring, and lane-keep assist. It also has two complete sets of LATCH connectors located in the second-row outboard seats as well as a tether anchor found in the second-row middle seat and third-row seat. Available safety upgrades include a head-up display, a surround-view parking camera system, and traffic sign recognition.
